Parks in Gas City and Jonesboro

Uncommon for its size, Gas City maintains an attractive 90-acre park, Eugene “Beaner” Linn Park, located at the southwest corner of the city and meandering along the Mississinewa River. An Olympic-size swimming pool is open every summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day (765-677-3090). The pool has a capacity of 600 swimmers and is patrolled by certified lifeguards. Also available in the park is a band shell, two lighted tennis courts, Hontz Hall meeting facilities*, a batting cage, professional horseshoe pits, basketball courts, lighted baseball an softball diamonds, volleyball, a playground for the children, picnic areas, bicycling, and just plain relaxing.

The bandshell at the Gas City Park is the home of the Gas City Area Chamber Concerts in the Park, made possible by combined donations of businesses and individuals. The concerts are free-of-charge and attended by local residents and visitors. Families gather on Tuesday evenings during the months of June and July and enjoy an evening of music.

The town of Jonesboro maintains a community park located on 6th Street. The historic log cabin of town founder, Obadiah Jones, is within the confines of this park, as well as ample meeting facilitates, horseshoe pits, basketball courts, a baseball/softball diamond and picnic facilities. A small scenic park has also been established in the middle of town at 4th and Main Streets.

The Twin Cities are approximately 30 minutes away from the Mississinewa and Salamonie State Park and reservoir facilities providing natural wood lakeside settings for outdoor escape. These facilities offer tremendous fishing, boating, camping, skiing, and hunting.
