2005 Home & Business Showcase

Saturday, October 15, 2005 will be here before you know it. Applications are being accepted for our 2005 showcase. You can contact the Chamber office or go to www.gascity.com and click on the Home and Business Showcase link. We had a great response to the early bird registration with more than 15 businesses registering. We are anticipating 40 businesses or more this year and with your help we will get there. This event has grown the past 3 years because of your support and commitment to this community.

We are still looking for at least one more banner sponsor. If you or your business does not intend to have a booth, but you want to support the Showcase, consider the banner option. Contact Cheryl Baker at Mississinewa Valley Paving or Penny at the Chamber office for details. In addition, we are still accepting donations for our Silent Auction. This is great opportunity to put your name in front of a captive audience, show off your wares, and/or advertise your company. Keep in mind you are not limited to something that you may sell. For example, you may buy tickets to an event, and then donate them on behalf of your business. The choice is up to you.

As a reminder, our theme is "Building Toward the Future". Put your creative hats on and go for it! Your enthusiasm is appreciated. For more information, contact committee members Cheryl Baker, Dennis Banks, Jenny Jones, Vicki Murphy, Connie Kellogg, or Chairman Mark D. Galenski.

Ducktail Run

Are you ready for the Ducktail Run Rod & Custom Show? Well Dixie & Mike Salter, along with Denny Shanks and Jerry Caudill, and a team of volunteers work around the clock to see that local folk and visitors alike enjoy the weekend in Gas City. Ducktail Run features 1972 and older vehicles only. Post 1972 entries must be chopped, channeled, sectioned, or tubbed with a custom appearance and must be judged only in the Radical Custom Class. No military vehicles or buses unless prior approval is given by the Ducktail Committee. Entries must include a picture with their registration. No bicycles, motor scooters, or go-carts are permitted. Golf Carts will be allowed to car show participants and proof of insurance must be provided. No unlicensed driver may operate a cart. The fee for a cart is $25 and must be paid for at the registration tent. You will receive a registration sticker to attach to your cart that must be displayed at all times.

Contests will included car name, best neon, idle drags, flame throwing, muffler rapping, license plate name, best duck display and chrome duck award. Awards will be presented at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the main stage. The "Best of Show" special award will be picked by the "Ducktail" Committee and there is also a "Mayor's Choice" Special Award too.

Registration is from Noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 8:00 a.m. to Noon on Sunday.

Kount Kennedy and his "flaming hearse" will be on hand and there will be entertainment all weekend. An early cruise-in at Mississinewa High School is scheduled for September 22, 2005, and there will be a large swap meet and craft fair.

Camping is allowed on the north end of the park along the river, north of the walkway. No camping trailers are allowed in the car show side of the park.
