Concerts in the Park

This year is our 6th season for Concerts in the Park. Please begin to tell your neighbors and friends about the upcoming season.

Concert Schedule

  • June 14: Mississinewa Valley Community Band. A free ice-cream social will be hosted by Needham-Storey-Wampner before the concert.
  • June 21: Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra (Big Band)
  • June 28: The Marlins (4 brothers who offer classical melodies, high energy rock to foot-tappin' ragtime, pop songs.)
  • July 5: The Answer (Tri-State's [IN, MI, OH] top rock & roll dance band)
  • July 12: The Cool Chillies. A versatile band bringing Tango, Tex-Mex, Salsa, Latin & Jazz-Rock.
  • July 19: The Singing Special K's (former Madison-Grant swing choir students under the direction of Chuck Kenworthy) provide variety, gospel.
  • July 26: Tuxedo Junction (Big Band)

Would you like to promote your business? Would you like to host a "customer appreciation"? Would you like to market your business through promotional items/free refreshments? The concerts are an excellent opportunity to meet and greet the public. With an average of 500 people per concert you can market or target your audience. Let your imagination guide you -- some examples or ideas… give away free popcorn, pass out flyers, throw Frisbees with your business name on it, give away free T-shirts. Contact the Chamber (674.7545) if interested.

Disability Awareness Month

People with disabilities have many talents and skills. Unfortunately, they are often excluded from full participation in the community. When we exclude anyone, we limit our potential - as people, a community, and as a business.

It is important that all employees in your company have awareness of people with disabilities, because they might encounter business contacts, clients or customers with disabilities. That awareness includes understanding how to interact with and make the companies services accessible to people with disabilities in order to maintain strong business relationships with them. This attitude projects a favorable company image not only to people with disabilities but also to the surrounding community.

In addition, understanding and awareness will help your employees adjust to and accept a co-worker who acquires a disability, or a new employee with a disability.

JobWorks, a WorkOne partner, now employs a Disability Program Navigator who can assist with awareness training for you and your staff. One option is the KISS email. Key Information for Superior Service (KISS) is a bi-weekly email that gives tips on interacting with people with disabilities. For more information on Disability Awareness Month, KISSes, or the Navigator Initiative contact Vince Smith at 668-8911, ext. 230.
